Enjoy the Silence

The first thing I always try to do at the start of every project is establish the music. This is especially true for filming, having the tone, pace, and feel in your head whilst filming can help suggest how the camera should move, this, in turn, equates to CG cameras and animations too. Even when taking stills I like to ‘see’ the music in my head, see everything like music video. I’m currently working on a short piece and already have the music in mind, ‘Enjoy the Silence’ by Depeche Mode. During mood boarding, I decided to find all the alt versions of it I could, what a can of worms it opened. I thought it would be fun to share the playlist of all the versions I found, although they’re the same song they all have a different feel, some good some bad but all will change the visual dramatically. One of the biggest issues I encounter when being sent material is the undervaluing of the audio, the imapact can make or break a project/reel/portfolio.
